The people behind Sound of Soma

Three practitioners, one belief: the body knows how to heal when it's finally given the space to let go. This is who we are, and why this studio exists.

Ange's story

From bed-bound to Sound of Soma

Ange playing singing bowls in the blue-lit studio at Sound of Soma

On paper, Ange was doing everything right. The corporate career, the achievements, the travel, the social life. At 30 he was living the version of success everyone agrees to chase, and underneath it he was running on empty: burnt out, disconnected, and following a script that was never really his.

His body had been sending warnings for years. Constant sickness. Chest infections that kept coming back. Fatigue that no amount of sleep fixed, and anxiety that no achievement quietened. Doctor after doctor ran their tests and found nothing wrong.

Then, after a trip to Bali, everything collapsed. Debilitating fatigue. Heart palpitations. Intense joint pain. Brain fog so heavy he couldn't think straight. Ange went from doing everything to doing nothing: bed-bound, unable to manage the most basic parts of a day.

1

"Nothing is wrong with you."

Endless appointments, endless tests, and the same answer every time. Lying in that bed, Ange understood two things that would define everything after: the medical system was treating his symptoms, not the root cause, and if he wanted his life back, everything had to change. The burnout, the script, the way he was living, all of it.

2

The first sound bath.

He started with meditation, and meditation led him to sound. In his very first session, something shifted that years of appointments never touched. Calm. Centred. At peace. In his own words: "a weight I hadn't realised I'd been carrying for years was suddenly lifted." The anxiety eased, the fog thinned, and he knew immediately that this was the work.

3

All in.

Healing himself came first, then learning to hold that space for others. Ange completed a Diploma of Sound Therapy with the Australian College of Sound Therapy in Perth, travelled to Goa, India to train in Tibetan singing bowls, certified in crystal singing bowls, and went deep on Solfeggio frequencies, the ancient healing tones his classes still use today.

4

The hustle years.

Sound of Soma didn't start with a studio. It started with borrowed rooms: Tuesday nights in a cosmetic tattooing studio, weekends at Saint Haven, fifteen hours a week lugging bowls and gear across Melbourne. It grew the only way that matters, one person at a time leaving lighter than they arrived, until the Windsor studio became home.

The facilitators

Who you'll meet

Ange Monitto, founder of Sound of Soma

Ange Monitto

Founder & Sound Practitioner

The story above is his. Ange leads the RELAX and RECHARGE sound healing classes and shares RESTORE with Jack, working with crystal and Himalayan bowls, voice and live looping to take a full room into deep rest.

His sessions are where Sound of Soma's whole philosophy comes from: nothing forced, nothing performed, just the conditions for your body to finally let go.

Jack Lawton, sound and somatics practitioner

Jack Lawton

Sound & Somatics Practitioner

Jack trained in fascial maneuvers with Human Garage, the team who pioneered the technique and have helped millions of people release stress and pain from the body, and blends that release work with sound healing and Reiki.

He leads HEAL, REBALANCE, the Nervous System Reset and Stress Release, and shares RESTORE with Ange. His classes lean into release: making it safe for the body to put down what it has been carrying, and giving you tools you can take home.

More about Jack

Why fascia.
Jack's work starts from a simple observation: stress is physical. It doesn't stay in your head, it settles into the connective tissue that wraps every muscle in your body, and once it's there, rest alone won't shift it. Most people carry years of it without ever knowing that's what the tightness is.

Trained with Human Garage.
He trained in fascial maneuvers with Human Garage, the team who pioneered the technique and have helped millions of people release stored stress and pain. These aren't stretches. They're specific sequences of breath, movement and self-applied pressure that release tension directly from the fascia, and they work fast enough that people feel the difference inside one class.

Sound, Reiki and release.
Alongside the somatic work Jack facilitates sound healing and is trained in Reiki, which is where REBALANCE comes from: gentle energy balancing held alongside a full sound immersion. The combination is deliberate. The maneuvers open the body, and the sound keeps the nervous system settled long enough for the release to actually hold.

In the room.
Jack teaches everything step by step and never assumes you've done this before. His classes are open to all levels, no flexibility or experience needed, and everything he shows you is simple enough to take home and use whenever stress builds up again. That last part matters to him: he'd rather you left with something you can use than depend on booking another class.

Charlie Eales, yin yoga and sound practitioner

Charlie Eales

Yin Yoga & Sound Practitioner

After years in a demanding corporate career, Charlie knows firsthand how hard it is to switch off and let the body truly rest. Yin gave her that permission, and discovering sound in Bali changed how she understood energy, frequency and rest. She trained as a Yin teacher in a shala by the ocean in Koh Phangan, Thailand.

She leads the Yin & Sound classes, Heart Opening, Letting Go and Grounding: long, fully supported shapes while Tibetan bowls are played around the room and rested on the body. Open to all levels, built for people who have never done yoga in their lives.

More about Charlie

From corporate to the mat.
"Having spent years in a demanding corporate career, I know firsthand how hard it can be to switch off and let the body and nervous system truly rest." Yin was what finally gave Charlie that permission, space to slow down, think, and reconnect with herself, and permission to literally just lie down and rest.

Finding sound in Bali.
"I first discovered the power of sound in Bali, and it completely changed the way I understood energy, frequency and life. I've had genuinely profound experiences with sound, the kind that stay with you long after you roll up your mat." Yin and sound together became the combination she keeps coming back to for calming the nervous system, easing anxiety and supporting deeper sleep.

Trained in Koh Phangan.
Charlie trained as a Yin Yoga Teacher in Koh Phangan, Thailand, in a shala by the ocean, wanting to deepen her own understanding and help others find that same sense of space.

How she teaches.
"I love creating spaces where people can truly soften, down-regulate and return to themselves amidst the busyness of everyday life. I offer hands-on assists to help you feel supported and grounded, and work with sound bowls directly on the body while guiding you through the class, to help you reach a deep sense of rest." Her classes are open to all levels of experience, and most of the room has never done Yin before.

Want to go deeper?

Ange holding a Tibetan singing bowl for a private sound healing session

A group class resets you. A private session works on what is specifically yours.

One to one, the whole hour is built around you: what your body is holding, what keeps coming back, what you have been carrying for years. Bowls placed directly on the body, worked into the areas that need it, at the pace your system can actually take. Nowhere to hide, and nothing to keep up with.

People book private sessions for chronic pain and tension, deep-set anxiety, grief, big life transitions, or simply because they want to go further than a room of twenty people allows.
