Perfect for

Better than dinner and drinks

A private sound bath in Melbourne works for almost any occasion where you want people to feel something rather than just show up.

Hens parties and hens nightsOne of the best hens party ideas in Melbourne if you want something classy rather than another bar crawl. The bride and her people lie down together for an hour, and everyone actually talks afterwards. Works as the opening act for a hens weekend, or the whole thing on its own.
BirthdaysWhere you want the day to feel like something. Book the studio for the birthday person and a few of their favourite people, and it becomes the part of the day everyone remembers.
A gift for someone you loveThe private sound bath for two is the gift people do not think to buy themselves. Anniversaries, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Christmas, or a friend who has had a brutal year and needs an hour where nothing is asked of them.
Couples and anniversariesAn hour lying side by side with bowls resting on each of you in turn. Worth considerably more than another dinner reservation, and you both leave in a completely different state to the one you arrived in.
Team days and offsitesTeams that have been running hot all year. It resets everyone at once and gives people something to talk about that is not work. We also come to you, see workplace sound healing below.
Farewells, reunions and friend groupsFarewells, reunions, milestone birthdays, engagement celebrations, or a group of friends who would rather have the room, the sound and the quiet to themselves.

No experience needed for anyone in your group. Nobody has to be flexible, spiritual, or good at meditating. Everybody just lies down.

What it is

What actually happens in a private sound bath

A sound bath is a guided sound meditation you lie down for. Nobody chants, nobody stretches, and nobody sits cross-legged trying to empty their mind. You lie on a mat under a blanket with your eyes closed, and we do the rest.

Crystal and Tibetan singing bowls, chimes and voice are played around the room and, at points, rested directly on the body, so you do not just hear the sound, you feel it moving through you. The tones slow your brainwaves down and pull your nervous system out of fight-or-flight into the deep-rest state where the body actually repairs itself.

Private means the studio is closed to everyone else. No strangers on the mat next to you, no fixed timetable, and the session shaped around your group and your occasion. For the smaller sessions everybody gets individual time with the bowls placed on them.

Most people come out soft, quiet and a little disoriented in the best way. Sleep that night is usually the deepest they have had in weeks. It is the reason private sound baths have become one of the more popular things to book in Melbourne for a group that wants to do something other than eat and drink.

How it works

Your private session

  1. Pick your size and your time. Choose two, three, four or a group of five to twenty, then book a time directly below. It takes about a minute.
  2. We set the room for you. Mats, bolsters, blankets and cushions laid out, the lighting set, the studio closed to everyone else. Everything is provided, your people just arrive.
  3. Everyone lies down. A full sound bath held for your group. Tibetan and crystal bowls, chimes and layered live sound, with bowls placed on the body one person at a time. Nothing is asked of anyone.
  4. You leave together. People come out of it soft, quiet and genuinely connected, which is a very different way to spend an hour with the people you care about.

For teams

Workplace wellness, brought to you

Book the studio for your team, or we pack the bowls and come to your office. Workplace sound healing works because it asks nothing of anyone: no activewear, no participation, no sharing in a circle. People lie down on the floor of a meeting room for an hour and leave genuinely reset.

Good for burnt-out teams, end-of-quarter, offsites, wellness weeks, and companies who would rather do something their people actually remember.

Questions

Everything people ask us

Is this a good hens party idea?

It is one of the most booked. If you want a classy hens party idea in Melbourne that is not a bar crawl or a cooking class, the bride and her people get the studio for an hour, everyone lies down together, and the mood for the rest of the day or night is completely different. Plenty of groups do the sound bath first and go on to lunch or drinks afterwards. It works for hens nights, hens days and as the opening session of a hens weekend.

Can I give this as a gift?

Yes, and it is one of the better ones. The session for two is popular for anniversaries, birthdays, Mother's Day and Father's Day. Book a time directly, or send us a message and we will sort out a gift voucher instead so they can pick their own date.

How many people can come?

Two, three or four for the small private sessions, and five to twenty for a full private sound bath. Larger than twenty, get in touch and we will work something out.

How long does it run?

Sixty minutes for all of them. Allow a little extra either side so nobody is rushing in or straight back out.

Does anyone need experience?

No. Nobody has to be flexible, spiritual or good at meditating. Everyone lies down under a blanket and the sound does the work.

What is provided?

Mats, bolsters, blankets, cushions and every instrument. Guests bring warm clothes, because your body temperature drops as you settle, and a water bottle.

Can you come to us instead?

Yes, for workplaces and offsites. Have a look at workplace sound healing, or send us a message with the location and group size.

What if no time suits us?

Text 0489 089 049 or email info@soundofsoma.com.au and we will open one for you. We add extra times regularly, evenings and weekends included.
